About US Area Codes
US Area Codes is a free, fast reference for every telephone area code in the United States — searchable by number, city, and state.
US Area Codes exists to answer one question quickly and accurately: what area code is that, and where is it from? We cover all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and U.S. territories within the North American Numbering Plan (NANP).

- Free lookup tools and an interactive map.
- Plain-English guides to overlays, splits, 10-digit dialing, toll-free numbers, and the 911/988/211/411 service codes.
How we approach the data
Our directory is built on the public structure of the North American Numbering Plan. We focus on facts that are stable and verifiable — the state and primary city a code serves, its time zone, whether it's an overlay, and current dialing rules. We deliberately avoid the kind of filler and inaccurate "scam code" lists that clutter other sites.
Independence
US Area Codes is an independent reference and is not affiliated with NANPA, the FCC, or any carrier. For the authoritative record, see our sources. Spotted something out of date? Please let us know.
